A night of extraordinary aurora above the Arctic Circle, northern Alaska. There were no coronal mass ejections from the Sun, and only low level geomagnetic activity predicted, but the night was still filled with all-sky colorful aurora. The aurora colors are yellow-green from oxygen emission at 557.5 nanometers at around 100 - 150 km altitude, and red oxygen emission at around 150 to 300 km altitude. Visually, the greens and reds were pastel green and red. Occasionally magenta shows, and this is likely due to nitrogen which emits in the blue and deep red. Temperatures were around 0 to -6 degrees F.
